This tour tells the story of how the discovery of diamonds and gold in the mid-1800’s led to the rapid economic development of South Africa and how the migrant labour system sowed the seeds of apartheid.  Johannesburg and Soweto are central to this story, playing pivotal roles in shaping the socio-political and socio-economic landscape of the country.
