Nthato Witbooi

Nthato has been in the travel industry since 2009 and has worked as a tour guide since 2016.  He is a certified guide for Gauteng province but specializes in Soweto tours where he was born and raised.

After matriculating from school, Nthato started his first job selling houses, but decided that this was not for him and so moved into the retail sector.  He worked at Discom stores for 5 years and steadily moved up the ranks to a managerial position.  Despite his success in retail, he could no longer ignore his passion for travel and so resigned to follow his dream.

He joined a transport company and worked as a truck driver for 2 years, travelling all around South Africa making deliveries.  He loved seeing new places and meeting new people and during this time his passion for his country was further inflamed.

In 2009 he started working for a tour operating company called Travcare, where he learnt a lot about the tourism industry.  From here he moved on to Illios, one of the biggest tour operating companies in South Africa.  Here his passion for tourism and natural aptitude for guiding was recognized by the company director, Mr Baba, who sponsored Nthato in completing his guiding studies and getting his accreditation.

Nthato is well-spoken and has a real talent for storytelling.  His love of people and guiding is apparent in his fresh enthusiasm for each tour and his keen intuition gives him the ability to curate each tour to his guests interests and needs.
